Setting up a campus while eating “calamares” at Baraka

Written by on 15/11/2017 in Blog

Last summer I was on vacation at Palos Cape in the south east coast of Spain. Life was pleasant there and food spectacular. I became a frequent visitor of Baraka bar, they serve delicious calamares.

One day a potential customer called me, they needed an online language school set up with ready to use English courses in one week or they would loose an important contract with an enterprise customer. I was on the beach and ask if they could wait until my vacations finish, but they said it was so important.

I said ok, I’ll try but I can’t warranty to have it in one week, it’ll also depend on you, as you have to provide me your raw material and in addition in the apartment I am living bandwidth is not very stable.

In the afternoon I had an idea, I’ll go to Baraka, have my “calamares tapa” with a cold beer and bring my portable to check their wifi. So I did. Wifi bandwidth was splendid as calamares too. So I decided to go there the day after. I coordinated with Santiago my partner in Singapore and CTO, he set up the campus in several hours. The day after, I uploaded, configured and enrolled students to the Show Me English courses we have co-developed with them, and in less than three days campus and courses were ready to be tested and used.

Our customer Clicking English was astonished, they couldn’t believe it. Baraka’s people as well as I finished up with all calamares stock in the kitchen.

Now I am considering moving Adhoc companies headquarter to Palos Cape.

Clicking English set up a new dimension of business, with a bit of our help, but also thanks to their great business vision and Cloud Computing. Business components were the following:

  • A reliable campus set up in a cloud implementation, like the one we supply
  • Our technical and pedagogical support
  • ShowMeEnglish courses built within our LMS (and authoring capabilities)
